Unexpected Visit

Saturday afternoon, Michael and I decided to do a little shopping in Richmond after McKayla's soccer game.  After walking around the mall and Kohl's for a bit, Michael gave his sister a call.  We ended up carving pumpkins with both of my sisters and brothers-in-law and having dinner!  It was a nice, unexpected stop and we really enjoyed visiting with family.  I carved my first pumpkin and we got to play with our nephew, Cole.  It was a fun Saturday night!!

The Wood Stove

It is amazing how something can take you back.  I have the most wonderful memories of home.  I realize that home is where the heart is and we're not supposed to get attached to material things and blah, blah, blah.  I still can't help but love our family's home. It has changed over the years (mostly for the better).  Our home has never anything "fancy", but it has always been beautiful.  It is the place where my whole family was a family, the place where my parents brought my new little sister home, the place where we woke up on Christmas morning and had to wait at the top of the steps until Mama and Daddy called us down, the place where we sat at the table and laughed and ate...our home. A big part of our home is this wood stove.  Our main source of heat, where Lauren, Leslie, and I put on our clothes in the winter, the place where our stockings hung at Christmas time, the place where Mama cooked for us when there was no electricity.  The stove has officially left our home so that Mama can get a new, more efficient source of heat.  I'm happy that Mama will have a warm house, but it still makes me (and Mama, Lauren, and Leslie) a little sad.  I reckon we'll have to find a new place to gather and warm our butts during the winter! :)

Breakfast Talk

McKayla was eating her breakfast this morning when Lucy came into the kitchen. Here's how the conversation went:

Lucy: Meow
McK: Meow
Lucy: Meow
McK: She understands me! I'm an expert!! I speak CAT!

Spoons

While eating her grits this morning, McKayla looked at me and said, "You know what I've never gotten?  If you look in the spoon on the back, you're rightside up. If you look in the front, you're upside down. I just don't get it. I'll never get it!"

Random Tuesday Tidbits

I drove to Richmond this morning for work and here are some of my thoughts from the drive...

I wonder why:
  • that first sip of my Starbucks Caramel Macchaito makes me feel so darn good
  • it takes the people with the smallest vehicles the most tries/time to back in their car!
  • I keep forgetting to get my favorite CDs out of the Mustang!! It makes for a long drive...

I love:
  • waking up next to my husband!
  • having McKayla greet me at the door after work - it melts my heart
  • DVR - it is just too fabulous!
  • Mondays off - what could be better?!
  • My wedding ring - I can't stop looking down!

Other completely random thoughts:
  • I really wanted to sit at home today with my favorite Longwood blanket, some hot chocolate, and watch Beauty in the Beast
  • For some reason, I felt the need to listen to Celine Dion's Greatest Hits this morning (probably why I wanted to watch Beauty and the Beast - Tale As Old As Time....)
  • People have always told me I talk in my sleep...mumbling about nothing in particular. Apparently, football is getting to me. Michael says I was talking about Jake Delhomme in my sleep the other night.
  • It's lunchtime, half of the work day is OVER, and I can't wait to get home to my M & M!

A Perfect Day

What makes up a perfect day?

- Pancakes for breakfast
- Watching the Panthers win their first game of the season with my hubby
- Steaks, baked potatoes, and salad for dinner
- Basketball and football in the yard with M & M

Life is good!

I had to giggle...

Michael and I were playing "Horse" this afternoon. Michael made a basket and I got an "O". McKayla said, "You're a ho now!"

Michael and I had to laugh a little anyway! :)

October Birthdays

October 2nd and 3rd are special days in our families! October 2nd was Granddaddy Rudd's 80th birthday. Michael, McKayla, and I joined about 20 of Granddaddy's friends and family members at Brian's Steakhouse for a nice dinner that night. Grandma Rudd made a delicious coconut cake for everyone. We all had a nice time!

October 3rd was my Grandma's birthday. We celebrated Sunday the 4th with lasagna and cake. Mama, Lauren, Leslie, Bryan, Chris, Michael, McKayla, and I got together at Grandma and Dandy's house for dinner, cake, and presents! We enjoyed our time together!

Happy Birthday Grandma Harris and Granddaddy Rudd! We love you!

Sofa Time

Tonight, our family watched Skylark, the sequel to Sarah, Plain and Tall. Our sofa is humongous. Seriously. I joke that it is the man sofa - it has four recliners, cup holders, and enough room to seat about seven people. Where did we sit? In one recliner....all three of us.

It was the best part of the movie! :)

Marinara

I drive a Mercury Mariner Premier. McKayla likes to ride in my car, the "Marinara". I tell her she's been hanging out with her dad at Pizza Hut too long! :) haha
